Obituary of Maria Hegyi
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved
Maria Hegyi (96) of Ewing, New Jersey. On September 29, 2022, Maria peacefully gained her angel wings.
Born in Yugoslavia, Maria and her family immigrated to the United States in 1950.
A parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and a member of community senior groups, she was also a legacy member in the Danny Thomas St. Jude society at Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. She loved founder Danny Thomas' motto:
"Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you do for others". This is how Maria lived her life.
Maria was formerly employed as a seamstress in NYC, a 22 year employee at Erzak's Hungarian Bakery in Trenton, and a school kitchen aide with Villa Victoria Academy. In addition to working in the school, she also was a private cook for the sisters at the Villa convent for more than 10 years. She loved her work at Villa and all the sisters. She was still in contact with them in her elder years meeting them at church.
She loved the Lord and recited her daily prayers, cooking, sewing, baking, canning and gardening. Her daughter states she could never bypass a weed. Maria loved traveling locally to Atlantic City, Cape May, and her favorite place, Lancaster, PA.
Maria is predeceased by her parents, Martin and Josephine Berg, and her husband Karoly Hegyi.
She is survived by her daughter Terri Hegyi who in her later years was also her loving caregiver. Son and daughter-in-law Martin and Laura Hegyi of Hellertown, PA. A sister and brother-in-law Josephine and Franz Herdt of North Carolina. Several nieces, nephews, and many other family and loving friends.
Maria was loved by all who had the pleasure to encounter her gracious presence and kind hearted, warm spirit. Her daughter would say often with their travels people would want to take her home, but she was precious and priceless. "God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best."
Relatives and friends are invited to Maria's viewing on Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 3:00-7:00pm with a prayer service beginning at 6:00pm at Knott's Colonial Funeral Home 2946 South Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ 08610. Condolences may be left at: www.knottscolonialfuneralhome.com
