Ostap Wasyl Kortschmaryk, 58, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15th 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous fight against cancer.
Ostap was born in 1960 in Trenton, New Jersey where he resided in the Hamilton-Trenton area most of his life.
Ostap graduated from Notre Dame High School, was an Ivy League graduate on a full scholarship to Dartmouth College and scholarship to Rutgers University for his Master's degree. He worked as a project manager in the construction field. He built beautiful homes, managed numerous construction sites, travelled up and down the East Coast and Hawaii.
Ostap was always researching historical facts about Ukraine and our present political system. Conversations on these topics were very enlightening and stimulating. He had a passion for technology which was evident by the numerous monitors computers hard drives and latest technological gadgets.
Ozzie was a gentle giant once you got to know him you saw his good-hearted soul, his caring ways and pleasant, upbeat personality. He had unconditional love for his niece and nephews where he was always interested in their achievements and endeavors. The family was fortunate to have Ozzy in their lives.
He was a member of St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church and a member of the church choir, Plast -Ukrainian Scouts organization, member of Khrestonostsi Plast Unit. Ostap was a graduate of the School of Ukrainian Studies, where he also assisted teaching history and other subjects. He also belong to UNA - Ukrainian National Association Branch 116.
Predeceased by his mother, Anastasia Kortschmaryk, his Godmother, Maria Hluszok. He is survived by his father Bohdan and his wife Maria, step-brother, Roman Dzuba, his cousins, Lydia with husband Ken Rojek, Leo Haninczak and his niece and nephews, Erika and Philip Rojek and Michael and Matthew Haninczak, his aunt Myroslawa Hluszok-Jones and husband Donald, as well as extended family in Ukraine.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Liturgy Friday 11:00 am at St. Josephat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1195 Deutz Avenue, Trenton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are by Knott's Colonial Funeral Home.
