Obituary of Gerard Barbero

Gerard "Jerry" Barbero passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the age of 76. Born and raised in Trenton, the son of the late Angelo and Rosina "Piccirillo" Barbero, Jerry was a lifelong resident of New Jersey. He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren Barbero and John Mazurkiewicz of Kingston, NJ; his son and daughter-in-law, Angelo and Mary Barbero of Mount Laurel, NJ; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kim Barbero, Jr. of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Angela & Matthew Stahlnecker, Gia Barbero & Michael Cifelli, Gerard & Kelly Barbero, III, Brandon Barbero and Hope Barbero; and two great grandchildren, Michael and Lorenzo. Jerry is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Marie Ann Barbero-Clifford and James Clifford of Hamilton, NJ; his former wife, Sandra Barbero of Robbinsville, NJ; his companion and friend, Marlene Mango of Toms River, NJ; a niece and nephew, Maria and Steven Spirito; and first cousins, Enrico Savelli and wife, Susana, of Clark, NJ; and John Bello and Marie Croft of Brooklyn, NY. There are also step children, step grandchildren, a step great-grandson and many close friends that shared his life. After graduating from Trenton Catholic Boys' High School, he attended a fashion design school in NYC and then completed his education at Rider College in Lawrenceville, NJ. In his early years, Jerry worked in the family business, Barbero Bakery " Trenton's Tiffany of Baked Products" founded by his grandfather in 1925 as Tasty Crust Bread. When his father retired in 1970 Jerry became President of Barbero Bakery and spent over forty years operating the business. He was also part owner of the River City Cafe in Trenton which soon became a friendly gathering place for new friends to socialize and for old friends to reconnect over good food and drink. An avid golfer, Jerry organized and participated in many golf tournaments in Atlantic City for the benefit of RWJ University Hospital and Rider University. He was also a very active member of the Baron AA, Italian American Sportsmen Club, and Trenton Catholic Boys' High School Alumni. Jerry had a passion for gardening, cooking, and travel. He spent many vacations in Florida and loved the Jersey shore. He also had a great love of animals. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 3rd at St. Gregory the Great Church, 4620 Nottingham Way in Hamilton Square at 10:30am. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, April 2nd from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at Knott's Colonial Funeral Home, 2946 South Broad St. in Hamilton.
